Official: Date of Macron’s Iran visit not fixed
An official in Iranian President's Office said that the date for a visit by French president Emmanuel Macron to Iran has not been fixed, adding that it will be fixed during the ongoing negotiations between the two countries.

“Mr. Macron's visit is on the agenda but the date has not been fixed,” Deputy Chief of Staff of Iran's Presidential Office Takht-Ravanchi said, IRNA reported.

Takht-Ravanchi rejected the rumors that Macron has canceled his visit due to recent unrest in Iranian cities.

Commenting on the unrest, Takht-Ravanchi said that rioters and their foreign sponsors misused economic problems to destabilize the country.

The official referred to the huge turnout of people in demonstrations held across the country against the riots and said it was people's reaction to US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's support for rioters.

Nearly two weeks ago, some peaceful protests were held in some Iranian cities against rising prices and overall economic condition of the country. Limited numbers of violent individuals, some of them armed, later sought to turn the peaceful protests into street riots. However, the protesters soon heeded calls by authorities to leave the streets so that their activities would not play into the hands of violent rioters.

On Tuesday, the US House of Representatives passed a resolution in support of the protests in Iran.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi on Wednesday strongly rejected the US resolution as “unacceptable and reprehensible”.

He criticized the “unwise and irrational” approach of the US to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, saying it constituted a violation of international rules and regulations.
