Iran, Turkey emphasize on expansion of parliamentary ties

Iran and Turkey underlined that expansion of parliamentary ties can help Tehran and Ankara improve their relations.

On Monday, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani hosted Chairman of the Committee of Foreign Affairs of Turkish Parliament Volkan Bozkir in Tehran, where both officials discussed a range of issues, IRNA reported.

Larijani referred to fight against terrorism as one of the issues that needs extensive cooperation among independent countries, noting that Iran and Turkey have are determined to fight against terrorism.

The Turkish official stressed on expansion of relations between the parliaments of the two neighbors.

Earlier on the day, the Turkish lawmaker held talks with Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

They talked about the situation in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, and voiced support for the Astana peace process on Syria, collective action against terrorism, and support for Palestine, Tasnim News Agency reported.

Back in December, high-ranking officials from Iran and Turkey signed a roadmap for closer cooperation in various security fields, including efforts to boost border control and counter money laundering.

The roadmap was signed at the conclusion of the second session of a joint working group of Interior Ministry officials in Ankara.

Iran and Turkey have ramped up efforts in recent months to boost trade ties.
