President Hassan Rouhani on Monday strongly condemned the United States’ recognition of Beit-ul-Moqddas as the Israeli capital, calling the move a “sinister scheme against Palestine and the Muslim world”.
Rouhani, in a telephone conversation with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, urged all Muslims to stand up against “the US-Israeli plot”.
“The oppressed people of Palestine and the Muslim world, through their unity, resistance and resilience, will definitely make the US-Israeli plot fail,” Rouhani said.
He said “the wrong move revealed more than ever the true colors of the US and the Zionist regime” of Israel and proved that Washington and Tel Aviv “do not want to recognize the rights of the Palestinian nation”.
The president call for unity among all Palestinian factions in the face of the US “disrespectful decision” to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Beit-ul-Moqddas.
Rouhani said Iran will stand by the Palestinian nation against “Zionist enemy”.
Haniyeh said Palestinians regard Iran as a “strong pillar” in its support for the cause of Palestine.
He slammed US President Donald Trump’s move a “blatant violation of the whole Muslim world’s rights” and said “the Palestinian nation will never allow Israel and the US to implement this decision”.
The senior Hamas chief called on all Muslim states to defend the Palestinian nation and Beit-ul-Moqddas with their firm decisions.
Trump sparked international outrage on Wednesday when he declared that the US was recognizing Beit-ul-Moqddas as the capital of Israel and that he had instructed his administration to begin the process of moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to the ancient city.
The dramatic shift in Washington’s Beit-ul-Moqddas policy triggered demonstrations in the occupied Palestinian territories, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq, Morocco and other Muslim countries.
