Iran beat Venezuela 1-0 in a friendly in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, on Monday night.
A sole second-half goal by Alireza Jahanbakhsh was enough to give Carlos Queiroz’s men the edge over the South American side.
Having beaten Panama 2-1 on Thursday, Iranians started right on the front foot as their best chance of the first half came in the first minute of the game when Reza Quchannejad’s close-range effort went just wide.
Iran enjoyed the majority of the possession before the interval, however, chances were few and far between as it finished goalless in the first half.
Jahanbakhsh had an easy task to score with 10 minutes into the second half as Vahid Amiri’s well-placed low-cross put the AZ Alkmaar’s midfielder against an empty goal.
The South American side desperately pushed for an equalizer but still failed to create clear-cut chances as the Iranians could have doubled their lead on the counter-attack on a couple of occasions through Sardar Azmoun.
Venezuela failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia as it finished in tenth in the South American qualifiers.
