On Tuesday, Iran’s 22-year-old weightlifter Seyyed Ayoob Mousavi edged Uzbek contestant Farkhodbek Sobirov in the men’s 94 kg weight category at the Weightlifting Arena in the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku, and received the gold medal with a total of 381 kilograms.
Sobirov’s overall register marked 380kg and finished in the second place, while Rovshan Fatullayev secured the aggregate bronze medal with 376kg.
In athletics competitions Alireza Qaleh-Nasseri and Ali Mohammadyari placed second and third respectively in the men's shot put F56 class, having recorded 10.49 and 10.37 meters.
Azerbaijani shot putter Olokhan Musayev got the gold with 11.86 meters.
Furthermore, in taekwondo Nahid Kiyani Chandeh grabbed the gold medal in the women's -53kg category after she managed to overcome her Turkish opponent Zeliha Agris in the final encounter at the Baku Sports Hall.
Iranian taekwondo practitioners Fatemeh Maddahi and Tayebeh Parsa also earned the bronze medal in the women’s -46kg and -57kg weight classes, respectively.
Later in the tournament Mahdi Es’haqi defeated Azerbaijani representative in the final competition of men's -54kg and collected the gold medal.
On Wednesday, Iranian weightlifter Mohammad-Reza Barari won the gold medal in men's 105kg with a total 395kg record. Iraqi athlete took the silver and the bronze went to Uzbekistani.
Later on Wednesday, Iranian boxer Omid Ahmadi-Safa won the bronze medal in men's 49kg category after he suffered defeat against Iraqi boxer in the semifinals by the overall judges' decisions.
Turkey leads the overall table of the games having won 116 medals. Host country Azerbaijan sits in second with 85 and Iran is in third position with 38 medals including 11 golds.
The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games will wrap up on May 22, 2017.
