The 26th Humanitarian Festival was held nationwide and at 370 branch offices of Imam Khomeini Relief Committee (IKRC) in Tehran Province. The motto for this year's event was: ‘Spring of Understanding, Splendor of Kindness’.
Director general of IKRC in Tehran Province said the festival was held during March 8-10.
Mohsen Valiee added that the Tehranis donated over 27 billion rials ($900,000) for the deprived during the year to March 2017.
According to preliminary estimates, public donations exceeded 80 billion rails ($2.6 million) in the year to March 20, he said.
He listed the main objectives of the festival as promoting the culture of beneficence and humanity, alleviating the problems of the needy and forging effectual cooperation with target groups, humanitarian centers and benevolent people.
The donations, both in cash and kind, would be distributed among needy families prior to the start of the New Iranian Year (March 21).
Also, deputy head of IKRC for promoting public contributions put the rural population of Iran at 20 million.
Ali-Mohammad Zolfaqari added: “We tried to increase public contribution from the villages to help the rural population.”
IKRC will meet the needs of the deprived and underprivileged groups by providing dowry and granting loans, he said.
