The Cultural Commission of Tehran's Islamic City Council is studying a plan which requires the municipality to draw up a bill to make optimal use of public parks, said a member of the council.
Mojtaba Shakeri further said the municipality and city council are complementary to each other in improving public culture. He pointed out that the capital city of Tehran has 2,200 parks in its 22 districts but no program has been prepared to use them for cultural purposes.
"A plan is expected to be devised to turn public parks into venues for cultural events including street theaters and art galleries."
He underlined that public parks are among the valuable assets of the city.
The official noted that adequate space is not available for many students to engage in physical exercises and undertake scientific and recreational activities in schools.
He believed that an agreement between Education Ministry and Tehran Municipality would help bring about conditions for schools to use public parks in their districts for various purposes.
"Education Ministry has welcomed the plan since the lack of space for exercise and scientific activities have created numerous problems for the students."
