Iran postpones music festival out of respect

The inaugural ceremony of the 32nd Fajr International Music Festival was put off for two days following the death of the Head of Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.

The festival's opening ceremony was supposed to take place today, but it is to be held on Friday and the event will continue until January 20, IRNA wrote.

The festival includes national and international competition sections. This year, the festival's international competition will be held under the topic of 'Cultural Iran'. The section will feature musicians from Central Asian countries, Azerbaijan Republic, India, Lebanon, Spain, Portugal, France, Italy and Japan.

The director of the the 32nd edition of the festival is Iranian musician and traditional vocalist Hamid Reza Nourbakhsh who is also the incumbent director of Iran's House of Music.

The festival admits musical compositions that have been released between October 2015 and October 2016.
