Animation Ranks 4th in the World
Deputy culture minister for cinematic affairs stated that Iranian animation industry ranks fourth in the world.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the first national seminar of animation at the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) College on Sunday, Mohammadreza Jafari Jelveh told MNA that animation industry in Iran stands fourth after Europe, the Far East, and Hollywood animations.
“Iran’s 5,000-year-old historical credit attested by the discovery of the world’ first animation in Shahr-e Sukhta (Burnt City), in Sistan-Baluchestan province reveals the intelligence of this nation,“ he said.
Jafari Jelveh further explained that fantasy and realism, human hopes and moral ideals as well as storytelling are major elements of animation films in Iran.
Mehdi Rahimian, deputy head of IRIB College who also spoke at the seminar, said that the college is the first in the country to present courses on animation.
Veteran animator Esfandiar Ahmadieh also delivered a speech on modern and traditional animation films at the two-day seminar.

Ferdowsi Seminar Planned
Iranian Blind Students’ Cultural-Scientific Association plans to hold a seminar on the renowned Iranian poet Abolqasem Ferdowsi on May 15.
According to IRNA, the seminar will be held in two sections of research and recitation of ’Shahnameh’ (Book of the King), an epic by Ferdowsi.
Topics for discussion in the research section include Ferdowsi’s biography, the influence of Shahnameh on Persian literature and culture, a brief introduction of the epic as well as Ferdowsi’s ability to blend Islamic and Iranian culture in composing Shahnameh.
Those interested can submit their articles to the association’s secretariat until May 3.
Iranian Blind Students’ Cultural-Scientific Association is located at 36, Javaneh Alley, Khajeh Abdollah Ansari Street, Tehran.

Gharibpour to Perform in Italy, UAE
A veteran Iranian director, Behrouz Gharibpour has been invited to perform a puppet opera ’Macbeth’ in the 15th Incanti Festival in the Italian city of Turin.
The event, which is one of leading puppet festivals, will be held in October.
Gharibpour expressed satisfaction about the professional outlook of the festival organizers and said that he is thinking of ways to communicate the stage decoration for his drama to Italy, ISNA reported.
Gharibpour has also been invited to stage ’Rostam and Sohrab’ as well as ’Macbeth’ in another festival in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
’Rostam and Sohrab’ will be presented in the opening ceremony, while ’Macbeth’ will be staged on the last day of the event which is likely to be held late summer.
’Pahlavi Cap’ Nearing Completion
The TV serial ’Pahlavi Cap’, directed by Seyyed Ziaeddin Dorri, is in the final stage of production.
According to MNA, the filming of the serial which was put off for some time, has been resumed and is likely to be completed in the next few months.
’Pahlavi Cap’ delves into the advent of Modernism in Iran and the numerous changes it posed.
Commenting on the theme of the serial, the film’s director said, “When Reza Khan founded the Pahlavi dynasty (in 1925), his wives and daughters observed the Hijab, or Islamic dress code, like other ordinary women. However, in 1963, the then king decided to outlaw Hijab as part of his reform program. He began with members of his family to prepare the grounds for implementing it throughout the country.“
The ban met with stiff resistance, as is depicted in ’Pahlavi Cap’, said Dorri.
The cast of the film includes Parsa Pirouzfather, Gohar Kheirandish, Dariush Farhang and Amin Hayaei.
US Features ’Colors of Memory’
Noted Iranian filmmaker Amir Shahab Razavian’s ’Colors of Memory’ is participating in the 39th Nashville Film Festival, in Tennessee, USA.
’Colors of Memory’ is about a successful Iranian surgeon living in Germany, who returns to his earthquake-ravaged hometown, Bam in Kerman province and slowly reconnects with his past.
The 100-minute movie has been screened in many international festivals, including California’s 30th Mill Valley Film Festival and University of California’s 18th Annual Celebration of Iranian Cinema, presstv reported.
The 39th Nashville Film Festival, which began on April 17, will continue until April 24.
22 Artists to Attend IPB
Iranian graphic designers are to compete in the 21st Warsaw International Poster Biennal (IPB) to be held from June 7 until September 7.
According to presstv, some 22 Iranian artists, including Majid Abbasi, Arezou Nasseri, Ladan Rezaei, Ehsan Mahdavi and Narges Abbaszadeh will participate in the event’s professional and competitive sections.
The competitive section will put on display ideological posters, culture posters, advertising posters as well as the Henryk Tomaszewski Golden Debut (for students or graduates of art academies within two years from graduation).
The posters will be presented in Warsaw’s Poster Museum and the Orangerie of the Wilanow Palace and will be judged by an international jury.
The Warsaw biennal aims at reviewing and comparing the most significant achievements of the time. The event is being organized by the Poster Museum at Wilan—w--Department of the National Museum in Warsaw and Polish Poster Foundation.
