A frame from "Fog of War'
Antiwar American documentary ’The Fog of War’, directed by Errol Morris, was reviewed on Sunday at the ongoing 26th Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF).
According to ISNA, the session was attended by a number of critics including Abbas Maleki as well as Games Blight and Janet M. Lang who served as principal substantive advisors to Morris, during the three years his documentary ’The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons From the Life of Robert S. McNamara’ was in production.
They were also co-authors of a teacher’s guide for the film, which was underwritten by the film’s distributor, Sony Pictures Classics.
Speaking at the session, Blight said, “The film had widespread reactions ranging from approval to anger. Due to the keen public interest in the film, we decided to release it in the form of a teacher’s guide.“
He added that authentic war documents were incorporated in the book.
Maleki, an expert on international affairs, also said that dialogs with enemies are among the film’s features.
“It would be a good idea for our war filmmakers to interview Iraqi generals who invaded our country during 1980-1988,“ he said.
’The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S. McNamara’ depicts the life of United States secretary of defense from 1961 to 1968, through the use of archival footage, White House recordings, and most prominently, an interview with McNamara at the age of 85.
The subject matter spans McNamara’s work as one of the ’Whiz Kids’ during World War II and as an executive at the Ford Motor Company to his involvement in the Vietnam War as secretary of defense under presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson.
The film won the Academy Award for Documentary Feature for 2003.
