Optimism About
Upcoming IAEA Report
TEHRAN, Nov. 11--A top nuclear negotiator reiterated that Iran’s nuclear case is considered closed, after expressing hope a positive report on Iran’s nuclear activities would be presented in the upcoming IAEA meeting.
Deputy Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Javad Vaeedi also said on Sunday any ambiguity over Iran’s nuclear case will be removed within the modality agreed with the International Atomic Energy Agency, Fars News Agency reported.
Vaeedi also said that after the removal of ambiguities, Iran’s nuclear issue will become an “ordinary case“ in the IAEA.
The official said the modality has several stages which should be implemented step by step, pointing out that IAEA Chief Mohamed ElBaradei is expected to announce in the agency’s upcoming meeting in November that the issues of P1 and P2 centrifuges have been finalized.
“Only in that case, we can go through other steps to remove ambiguities from other nuclear activities,“ he said.
Vaeedi noted that recent talks between Iran and IAEA in Tehran over the centrifuges have yielded positive results.
“We hope ElBaradei would present a positive report on Iran’s nuclear activities in the upcoming meeting,“ he said.
Referring to the next round of talks between Iran’s top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili and EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, he said the time and venue of these talks have not been announced.
Meanwhile, a German politician Verner Hoier said any sanction against Iran will fail.
Commenting on recent talks between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President George W. Bush, he said any diplomatic solution to Iran’s nuclear case can have a positive impact on the finalization of Iran’s nuclear case.
On Saturday, Bush and Merkel said they will continue to take a diplomatic approach in dealing with Iran’s defiance of international demands that it halt its uranium enrichment program.
“What the Iranian government must understand is that we will continue to work together to solve this problem diplomatically, which means they will continue to be isolated,“ said Bush.
